Guest Post: Five Key Trends Impacting the Aerospace and Defense Industry Amid Challenging Economic Times

By Damien Lasou, Accenture

As this year’s Paris Air Show comes into view, it’s become clear that fundamental change is in the air in aerospace and defense. The industry is shrinking on many different levels. On the decline industry-wide during the past year are a vast number of metrics including the number of airplanes manufactured, revenues and overall market size. The root cause, of course, is the extraordinarily challenging global economy.

On the Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 plane crash in Buffalo

Something sounded familiar to me when I read the news of the horrific crash last night in Buffalo, when Continental Connection Flight 3407 crashed about five minutes before it was due to land.

The plane was a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400, the same plane model that was grounded by SAS a year and a half ago after huge problems with the landing gear.

Now this looks like fun: Jet-Man Yves Rossy crosses the English channel

Tagged:  •    •

Yves Rossy, a.k.a. "Jet Man", yesterday completed a flight as historic as it appears kooky, crossing the English Channel from Calais, France, to Dover, England wearing, basically, a large wing on his back with four small jet engines attached and a helmet.

It's one of those things I would love to try "in principle".

Excellent Virgin America Safety Video

This is undoubtedly the best in-flight safety video I've ever encountered, used on Richard Branson's new Virgin America flights.

Enjoy!

Landing at St. Barths (SBH), French West Indies

Tagged:  •

The airport at St. Barth's is famous for its short landing strip hemmed in at one end by mountains, at the other by a strip of beach. Landing there in one of the puddle-jumpers that shuttle to and fro from St. Martin and other nearby islands is, to say the least, a hair-raising experience.
